Discord Server Control Bot

A modular Discord bot for managing game servers and automation on a home server.

  • Discord
  • Automation
  • Home Server

Overview

This project is a Discord bot designed to control and manage services on my home server.

It grew out of a smaller PowerShell script used to manage firewall rules for different game servers. Once that part was solved, it made sense to build a more complete system around it.

Why I built it

I wanted a simple and flexible way to manage game servers without logging into the machine every time.

At the same time, I wanted to build something that is not tied to a single game, but instead acts as a foundation that can be extended over time.

How it works

The bot listens for commands in Discord and maps them to predefined scripts on the server.

These scripts can be:

  • .bat files (Windows)
  • .sh scripts (Linux environments)
  • or other command-based automation

The core idea is to keep the logic simple: Discord command → mapped action → server execution.

Approach

Instead of building something game-specific, the focus is on structure and reusability.

The goal is to:

  • Keep a stable core
  • Add support for new games or services over time
  • Avoid rewriting logic for each new use case

What I learned

  • Designing a system as a foundation instead of a one-off script
  • Thinking in reusable components instead of isolated solutions
  • Structuring commands and automation in a clean way
  • How small tools can simplify everyday tasks

What’s next

  • Add support for more services and games
  • Improve command structure and flexibility
  • Possibly add status feedback in Discord
  • Expand automation beyond game servers
